Some of the greatest workplace transformation projects are happening in New York, and the infectious energy and buzz that this thriving metropolis brings to the workplace drew us to open up Spacestor’s new design centre in Manhattan’s Midtown South neighborhood. Situated on Park Ave South, this 2nd floor corner location presented an unparalleled opportunity for great visibility right at the heart of the New York design scene. We partnered with world-leading architects, Gensler, to master the design of this space, creating an impactful, memorable destination with a sense of discovery.

“ This versatile space will promote collaboration, experimentation and activations to build lasting relationships with designers, architects and the local design community. ”
Mark Brungo, Gensler Principal and Project Director

Our goal was to create an experience that was no ordinary furniture showroom; it’s a flagship location and a destination to grow brand awareness, engage with some of our most valuable clients and inspire designers to think outside the box. It’s a space for collaborative experimentation and a demonstration of just a microcosm of an experiential workplace.

The design framework was formed on 4 key principles: global and local, cool, innovative and heuristic. And these are really demonstrated in the unique and innovative use of our products; an inspiration to designers as to the unlimited capabilities of modular furniture when used in unconventional ways. The interior embraces the concept of ‘discovering the unexpected’, it’s designed to be a brand experience offering a unique interaction with Spacestor’s products, building an emotional connection, as people discover and learn something new for themselves.

Gensler made innovative use of Palisades II, a modular, customizable zoning system which has been fitted with a plethora of accessories such as planter boxes, shelving and acoustic panels which work to create a sense of intimacy, whilst allowing for the passage of light to shine through the open space. The Palisades forms the central atrium of the space, growing up and beyond this core design statement to fill the entire ceiling, creating some stunning views from the streets below. Keeping the brand integral to the design expression, the famous California case study houses inspired the wood slatted ceiling feature and ultimately, the central atrium feature filled with skylight and greenery.

The design choices throughout this space truly encapsulate Spacestor’s philosophy that a focus on wellbeing and personal experience is essential to attracting and retaining great talent. “As a flagship destination that embodies the design principles of being global and local, heuristic and cool, it uses the products in inventive ways to convey how Spacestor is reimagining workplace design and fostering innovation” stated Mark Brungo, Gensler principal and project director. “This versatile space will promote collaboration, experimentation and activations to build lasting relationships with designers, architects and the local design community.”
